Habitat for Humanity
-
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit non-denominational Christian housing organization, dedicated to eliminating poverty and homelessness.
-
We welcome all people to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter.
-
Homes are built from volunteer labor, private donations, and the hundreds of hours of "sweat equity" by each partner family. The homes are sold to the partner families at no-profit and no-interest mortgage.
-
The homeowener's monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving fund that is used to build more houses.
-
Habitat for Humanity does not discriminate according to race, religion, or ethnic group.
-
Habitat is not a giveaway program. It is a hand up not hand out. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payements, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor-sweat equity-into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.
-
Habitat houses are affordable for low income families because there is no profit included in the sale price.
-
Mortgage length varies from seven to thirty years
